BY SEGUN ADEBAYO, ABUJA – President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki says the new National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and his National Working Committee (NWC) must urgently work to restore unity and justice in the party ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Senator Saraki said the newly-inaugurated NWC must look back to 2015 and what the Party did right to sweep the then ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) out of office.

Speaking at the end of APC’s National Convention in Abuja on Sunday, Saraki noted that some prominent Party members were absent at the convention for obvious reasons, and urged the new NWC to work on bringing everyone back on board.

According to the Senate President, there are people who were conspicuously absent from the convention and the task before Oshiomhole-led team is to have everybody working together.

He acknowledged there are numerous challenges that the leadership must address urgently, adding that APC can only replicate the successes of 2015 by ensuring that party members work together as a team and redeem the Party from impunity and injustice.

“I have confidence in the new National Chairman and I hope he will bring all members together”, Saraki said

Also speaking, Speaker of House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, urged the new APC leadership to ensure justice for both the weak and the strong within the party, noting that there are no challenges that defied solutions.

He stated that a deeper search by the new leadership would ensure solutions are provided to address all contending issues in the party and Nigeria at large.

Dogara said for APC to make progress and deliver on its electoral promises to Nigerians, there must be unity and justice within the party, adding; “We know that President Muhammadu Buhari stands for justice and he stands for the common man and his strength has been the common man.

“It is therefore very important that the leadership of the newly elected executives create equal opportunities for the weak and the strong.”

The Speaker said though conflicts are normal for any group to move forward, the Oshiomhole led-team must at all times work for the overall interest of the people by proffering solutions to both existing and emerging challenges.

Dogara said; “I charge you also to maintain the culture of democracy which is conflict, compromise, consensus and progress.

“Without conflict there cannot be progress and as a matter of fact, the escalation of constructive conflict is good for our progress.”

For the speaker, only an effective management of the conflict would aid the healing process within the party and position it on the path to ensure further progress in the country, even as he noted that Nigeria’s destiny is great.

He maintained that where the country is going to is far greater than what it is currently going through, insisting that the APC, under President Buhari has done much for Nigeria though a lot more still needs to be done for the people.
