BY SEGUN ADEBAYO, ABUJA – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State to shun utterances and other tendencies capable of throwing the state into political chaos and anarchy.

This is as the party called on leaders of thoughts and well-meaning Bayelsans to rein in those currently making inflammatory and unguarded statements that can easily overheat the polity and the state following the Supreme Court judgment that awarded the election to the PDP in the State.

The APC particularly frowned at what it described as improper conduct and rash remarks by the PDP State Secretary, Mr. Godspower Keku, against APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomole and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva.

In accusing Mr Keku of fabricating and peddling lies against Comrade Oshiomhole and the former Bayelsa Governor Sylva, the APC charged security agencies to call him to order before he sets the state on fire with his toxic comments.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, APC’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mr Yekini Nabena, said the warning has become imperative given Keku’s propensity for making false claims that can readily inflame tension in the state in the wake of Supreme Court’s ruling on the Bayelsa State Governorship poll.

Nabena, who cited ‘unprovoked attacks’ on the Minister and the APC national leadership by the PDP State Secretary, following the apex Court decision on Bayelsa Governorship Review, alleged the said Keku has not refrained from making unsubstantiated accusations against the two APC Chieftains regarding the choice of David Lyon and Degi as the party candidates for the March 9, 2019 election.

The APC deputy Spokesperson, who is from Bayelsa, described media reports credited to PDP’s state scribe as “all fabrications to cause disaffection, not only in the APC fold, but in entire Bayelsa state”.

For him, it is pertinent that all people of goodwill in the state urgently call the said Keku to order for the purpose of keeping in check all avoidable crises in the South South state.

He said; “I read the unprovoked and unwarranted attacks by one Godspower Keku, purported Bayelsa State Secretary of the PDP on the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva and the APC national leadership in which Chief Sylva was particularly hurled several concocted and mischievous allegations.

“As law abiding people, we have accepted the decisions of the Supreme Court on the Bayelsa Governorship in good faith.

“However, I strongly urge the PDP in Bayelsa State not to take for granted the 352,552 electorate who voted overwhelmingly for their governorship choice by making insensitive and infuriating statements.

“Perhaps, the PDP in Bayelsa is out of tune with the current state government and needs to be called to order. In the interest of peace and the development of Bayelsa, we have appealed to our supporters and members to be peaceful and accept the ruling.”

Nabena further cautioned that attempts by the Bayelsa chapter of “PDP to stir the hornet’s nest and further infuriate Bayelsans is ill thought, careless and reckless.”
