Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has demanded justice and fairness for all the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers in the state whose electoral victories were erroneously nullified by the Court of Appeal.
Against the backdrop of last week’s Supreme Court ruling reversing the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which earlier sacked him as governor, Mutfwang said it is also time to ensure fairness comes the way of the dismissed lawmakers.
Speaking on Thursday when he visited the Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TetFund), Mr Sonny Echono, in Abuja, the Governor said; “We are particularly grateful for the concerns Nigerians have shown. At the moment, there is no clear-cut answer to the question but I can tell you that discussions are ongoing.
“So, it is a work in progress. And when we are done, I am sure Nigerians will get to know the path we have chosen to take. At the end of it, this concern for justice is well noted and I pray that it becomes one of the values of our national existence.”
According to him; “If in every facet of life, we insist on justice, fairness, and equity I believe Nigeria will become a great country.”
Forefront News notes that there have been hues and cries over the fate of Plateau PDP lawmakers whose elections were nullified by the Court of Appeal on the same basis that Mutfwang was sacked as the governor but later enjoyed reprieve from the nation’s apex Court.
In electoral cases for lawmakers, the Court of Appeal is empowered as the final court for the determination of their petitions and subsequent appeals.
