Applause As NECO Extends Registration For 2022 Internal SSCE
- Deadline now Monday 20th June 2022
BY EDMOND ODOK – Applause has come in torrents for the National Examinations Council (NECO) following its decision to extend the registration period of the 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for school-based candidates.
The commendations are from parents and students who were already hard-pressed by the initial deadline that saw many of them unable to register for the examination due to financial difficulties.
Most of the parents and guardians, who spoke with Forefront News Online, were full of excitement that the Council gave a listening ear to their numerous pleas for a deadline extension because they would be able to have their wards registered for this year’s examination.
According to them, by shifting the closing to Monday 20th June 2022, those parents depending on the payment of May 2022 salaries would now be in a position to comfortably have their wards registered to sit the exams.
Meanwhile, the Council has urged all State Ministries of Education, Principals, Commandants, and stakeholders to take note of the new development as there would be no further extension when the current deadline expires on June 20.
Initially, the Council had scheduled to close registration on Monday 30th May 2022 before bowing to pressure from stakeholders to move the date forward
A statement by NECO’s Head of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, said candidates for this year’s examination would have to make choices from 76 subjects across the board.
“The 2022 NECO Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) will commence on 27th June 2022 and end on Friday 12th August 2022”, he said
