BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – Elder Statesman and respected South-South Leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has called for the immediate arrest of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his recent threat to instigate crises in some states of the Federation.
Clark, who made this call on Thursday in a press conference at his Asokoro residence in Abuja, said the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, should not allow the Minister to get away with such highly inflammable comments.
He said the Minister’s threat to “ignite unrest” in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) states if their governors transfer the party’s structure to Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State represents clear danger to the peace and security of the country.
According to the former Federal Commissioner for Information, Wike’s comments demonstrate a blatant disregard for his current boss at work, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Chief Clark, who read a letter written to the IGP during the media briefing, said the words of the former governor marked a “flagrant disrespect to the person of President Bola Tinubu, who appointed him”, describing his comments as “unbridled”.
Also noting that Wike’s comments were treasonable in nature given their capacity to incite violence in the country, the Ijaw leader said the Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, and #EndBadGovernance protesters had been arrested for similar offences by the Police.
He warned against double standards by the Tinubu-led administration, insisting that the IGP must do the same for the FCT Minister and get him to retract his statements.
In a viral video on social media, the FCT Minister was heard making the threat while addressing party members loyal to him in Port Harcourt, saying; “Some governors say they will take the structure from us and give it to someone else. I hear they’ve assured them they’ll take the party from us.”
Speaking at the PDP Secretariat in Port Harcourt, the State capital during the PDP’s state congress, Wike said; “I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states. When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace – anything you see, you take.
“Whether you’re in Bauchi or anywhere else, your hands will get burnt. You will never see peace again. Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of the PDP from us.”
