Elder Statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, on Thursday, September 5, 2024, called for the arrest and prosecution of Mr Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) over his unguarded threat to destabilize states governed by governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Chief Clark, a prominent leader of the Ijaw nation, urged the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to as a matter of national interest arrest Wike over his statements that are capable of undermining the peace in the states.
Wike had last weekend at the PDP secretariat in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, during the party’s state congress, vowed to cause trouble and set fire in the state of any of the PDP Governors that attempted to interfere in the affairs of the Party in the State.
Clark who made the call while briefing journalists in Abuja, noted that the words of the FCT minister marked a flagrant disrespect to the person and office of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who appointed him.
Clark described Wike’s comments as “unbridled”, stressing that his comments were a form of treason as they were capable of inciting violence in the country.
The former Minister of Information noted that Omoyele Sowore, who was the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), was arrested for similar offences, stressing that IGP Egbetokun must do the same for the FCT minister and get him to retract his statements.
