Arsenal Escape Home Defeat In Fight Back Against Spurs

Arsenal’s Manager, Unai Emery has the striking duo of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette to thank as his side narrowly escaped from an imminent home defeat on Sunday.

Both strikers’ top flight predatory instinct saw Arsenal roaring back from a two goals deficit to stalemate matters at 2-2 against visiting Tottenham Hotspur in London.

The thrilling north London derby in the English Premiership saw Spurs drawing the first blood when Christian Eriksen almost effortlessly pushed the ball into an empty net on the rebound to give the visitors an early lead.

The goal came after a superb piece of hold-up play from Son Heung-min allowed Erik Lamela to fire at goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

Though the hosts had most of the ball, Spurs were far more threatening on the break and Leno was forced to keep out stinging efforts from Harry Kane and Eriksen.

Things seem to get worse for the Coach Emery’s men when they conceded a penalty for Granit Xhaka’s clumsy tackle on Son.

Kane stepped out to score from the spot in the 40th minute to put Tottenham on track for a possible first league win on enemy territory in over nine years.

But Lacazette had different ideas as the Frenchman reduced the deficit before half-time with an emphatic strike off an exquisite pass from new boy, Nicolas Pepe.

Undaunted, Tottenham came close to extending their lead when talisman, Harry Kane struck the post some minutes later.

The tide however swung in favour of a galvanised Arsenal as their Spanish midfielder, Dani Ceballos came off the bench to smash a shot that Keeper Hugo Lloris did well to tip over.

With an equaliser looking ever likely, it duly arrived when Gabon-born striker Aubameyang prodded a lofted pass from Matteo Guendouzi into the net in the 71st minute.

It was Aubameyang’s third goal in four Premier League games this season. However, Arsenal’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos had a goal ruled out for offside while Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko spurned a last-gasp chance in a thrilling finale by blasting over the bar.

With the result, Arsenal now have seven points while Spurs are on five from four matches so far.
