Reports emerging from Jos, the Plateau State capital indicate that some dare devil assailants whose identity are yet to be identified, on Sunday evening at about 5:30pm stormed the Correctional Centre with the aim of freeing some of the inmates.
However, the gunmen who attacked the Jos Correctional Centre to free targeted inmates have been trapped following the deft move by the Joint security agencies made up of personnel of the Nigerian Army, police, State Security Services and the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps that quickly mobilized and surrounded the Centre with ongoing gun duels.
Information pieced together pointed to the direction that the nations’ security operatives are currently repealing the attack on the Jos Correctional Centre.
The Spokesman of Operation Safe Haven, Major Ishaku, who confirmed the attack, said personnel of the Joint Task Force have surrounded the Correctional Centre and taken control in strategic positions at the facility.
It was gathered that the dare devil gunmen are being suspected to be members of the terrorists group – Boko Haram
The Jos Correctional Centre is situated within the heart of Jos City and not far from the police headquarters in the state thus, was not difficult for security operatives from the Police Division A to quickly mobilized and moved into action in support of the Joint Security Task Force.
Further checks within the security circle indicate that the Assailants that arrived the facility in their numbers began attacking the Centre before prison security tried to repel them with reinforcement sought from the Special Task Force, OPSH (Military, NPF & NSCDC) which quickly mobilized and surrounded the Correctional Centre with the attackers inside exchanging fire.
As at the time of filing this report, some of the attackers are believed to have been arrested while the casualty figure is yet to be ascertained.
