Assembly Resolution: Gov Alia Directs BSIEC Chairman To Vacate Office

…Ordered to handover to Admin secretary

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has directed the chairman of the of the State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), Dr John Chen to hand over to the the functions of his office to the Administrative Secretary of the commission.

The directive followed receipt of the resolution of the House of Assembly which was communicated to Governor Alia for implementation.

The Benue State House of Assembly had in its resolutions called for the overhaul of the State Independent Electoral Commission and particularly urged Governor Alia to implement the immediate removal of the Chairman of the Commission, Dr. John Chen.

The Assembly accused Dr Chen of lacking in good judgement as well as unable to take needed decisions that will appeal to the greater majority of stakeholders.

The legislators also accused the Chairman of the BSIEC of carrying out actions that are inimical to the people which fell short of public interest.

A statement by Sir Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to the Benue State Governor, said that Rev Fr Alia acknowledged and accepted the resolutions.
