Followed what it described as “the federal government’s failure” to make meaningful progress in addressing the demands of its members, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on Sunday, October 12, 2025, declared a two-week warning strike.
Professor Chris Piwuna, National President of ASUU who announced the decision of the Union at a press conference which held at the University of Abuja, said that the strike would affect all public universities in Nigeria.
Prof Piwuna said the decision followed the failure of the government to make any meaningful progress in addressing the long-standing demands of ASUU.
He said that the 14-day ultimatum issued on September 28, 2025, expired without any tangible response from the relevant authorities, a development that prompted ASUU to proceed with its industrial action.
Piwuna said that all ASUU branches nationwide have been instructed to fully withdraw their services starting at midnight on Monday, October 13, 2025.
In thee words of the ASUU President; “The strike would be both total and comprehensive, in line with the resolution reached at the union’s most recent National Executive Council (NEC) meeting”.
