National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has confidently declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 is a done deal that cannot be stopped.

Speaking against the backdrop of a press conference held on Thursday in Abuja by a group of opposition leaders led by former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, the APC Chairman boasted that no amount of political gang-up would stop Tinubu’s second term project.

Alhaji Ganduje, who is the immediate past Governor of Kano State, maintained that; “No amount of political arrangement or gang up can stop the good people of Nigeria from re-electing Tinubu as President in 2027.”

A statement signed by his Special Assistant on Public Enlightenment, Chief Oliver Okpala, further said; “Tinubu will surely emerge victorious because of his untrammeled performance since he assumed office as President of Nigeria.

“Forget the recent political gatherings and rantings from some politicians who presently do not have any identifiable political base. There gathering from Labour Party to PDP to SDP and others are people with different political ideologies and selfish political interests that can never agree on any issue politically.”

At the Thursday media conference in Abuja, Atiku, flanked by other opposition leaders, including Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State; Emeka Ihedioha, former governor of Imo State; and many others, criticised President Tinubu’s handling of governance issues in the country as well as the recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

According to the group, they have also formed a new coalition to wrest power from the ruling APC and President Tinubu to restore good governance in the country come 2027.

APC Thrashes Atiku, Peter Obi, El-Rufai As ‘Roving Opposition Opportunists’
Also reacting to Thursday’s press conference, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) described former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and other opposition leaders as “roving opposition opportunists.”

It accused the opposition figures of standing idly by and failing to take any action to help defuse the crisis in Rivers State, which had posed a clear and present threat to peace, the safety of lives, and national assets.

Speaking through its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party criticised the opposition figures for what he described as their self-serving approach, saying; “We urge Nigerians to ignore roving opposition opportunists seeking to exploit the situation in Rivers State to escalate tension in the country.

“These opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, stood idly by and did nothing to help defuse the crisis, which had become a clear and present threat to peace, the safety of lives, and national assets in Rivers State.

“Today, these self-serving individuals did what they do best – issued a lengthy, convoluted, and utterly meaningless statement intended to get their names in the headlines and stir up tension.”

However, the APC commended the National Assembly’s Leadership and members for swiftly approving President Bola Tinubu’s proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State, as constitutionally stipulated.

The Party’s Spokesman said the 10th Assembly had demonstrated patriotism by prioritising the peace and security of the people of Rivers State and uniting in the national interest, adding; “In this regard, we particularly applaud the opposition caucus for rising above partisanship in support of the proclamation.”

Emphasising that the President remained committed to ensuring peace, maintaining law and order, and protecting critical national assets in Rivers State, Morka maintained that President Tinubu was determined to restore constitutional order, ensuring that all three arms of government, executive, legislature, and judiciary, co-exist and perform their constitutionally assigned functions for the well-being and good governance of Rivers State.
