BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has debunked claims that he is planning to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for another party, insisting that he will not be distracted from pursuing and fulfilling his presidential aspiration within the nation’s main opposition party.
The Waziri of Adamawa said given his privileged position as a leading aspirant on the PDP’s platform, there is no such move in the offing
An online platform recently reported that the former nation’s number two is working on exiting the country’s main opposition party in a matter of weeks for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), where his chances of flying the party’s presidential flag will be guaranteed.
According to Atiku’s Campaign Office, he is not even contemplating any move in such direction, adding “For the avoidance of any doubt, Atiku remains the frontline aspirant for the presidential ticket of the PDP.”
The aspirant, considered by many as the one to watch on the PDP’s list, described the online report as a malicious attempt to confuse the public about his aspiration, ahead of the forthcoming primaries to pick PDP’s presidential candidate for the 2019 general elections.
The statement further stated that; “In the past two months, Abubakar has moved across states in the country consulting with stakeholders of the PDP and explaining to them his agenda encapsulated in the acronym JOBS: Jobs, Opportunity, Being united and Security) for Nigeria.
“The nationwide consultations continue this week with visits to the South West, North West and North Central zones of the country.”
The campaign office maintained that without any compromise, the Wazirin Adamawa’s enthusiasm and commitment to impress the PDP’s delegates and win their confidence for another shot at Nigeria’s presidency come February 2019.
“To assume that he will abandon the hard work he has done with the positive results he is getting from the stakeholders of the party is to say the least preposterous and unthinkable”, the statement said
The Atiku’s campaign office therefore urged all his supporters to remain steadfast and see the contrived news of his planned decamping as an attempt to distract him from the set task of winning the PDP ticket and the 2019 presidential election by the grace of God.
