The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council, has declared that its candidate, Atiku Abubakar as a long standing democrat will not sacrifice those elected by the Party for his own ambition just to please autocratic democrats.

This was as the Council specifically said that if by chance Atiku loses the support of some party members on account of adhering to the rules, he would be satisfied that he acted right, stressing that the failure of Nigeria can be adduced substantially to the dominance of strong men who trample on weak institutions.

It also said that the PDP is resolved not to yield to whims and caprices of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State over his demand to arm twist Dr. Iyorchia Ayu to resign as National Chairman of the Party.

These were contained in a statement issued by the spokesman of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Dino Melaye who explained that the PDP presidential candidate for the 2023 election is defending democracy.

He noted that Atiku is being persecuted by Wike and his team for the defence of democracy and respect for due process.

In the words of Melaye; “For the avoidance of doubt, Atiku as a long standing democrat will not sacrifice those elected by the Party for his own ambition, just to please autocratic democrats.

“Atiku will continue to support the enthronement of strong institutions that can minimise the excesses of political goliaths. And as it happened to Goliath, strong men get defeated, no matter the length of their domination,” he said.
