A political chieftain in Gombe State, Dr. Bashir Abdullahi Kumo, has decried what he described as the brazen attempt by one Muhammadu Dan-Barde to denigrate the military records of AVM Adamu Fura (retd) and thereby mock and ridicule the entire Nigerian Armed Forces.

Dr. Abdullahi Kumo, who was responding to the wht he called the “unprintable names” Dan-Barde heaped on AVM Fura, said that the action of the Dan-Barde is totally unacceptable and stand condemned in totality.

Abdullahi Kumo, who is also a Lawyer, said that AVM Fura remains a man of repute, respect and integrity whose contributions shall never be forgotten on the lives of the people of Gombe State and Nigeria at large.

He noted that the military is a profession with a special, prolonged and rigorous training, adding that AVM Fura (retd) was a product of the great institution and graduated from the Nigerian Defense Academy as a Flight Lieutenant who later rose through the ranks after he was certified and satisfied for the post of Air Vice Marshall (AVM) before his retirement.

According to Abdullahi Kumo; “AVM Adamu Fura (retd.) has undergone a lot of trainings and courses during his career both within and outside the country. He has also bagged a lot of awards and honors during the period of his service.

“He is a man with a lot of achievements to his credit. The entire Nigerian Armed Forces will forever be proud of Adamu Fura,” he said.

He recalled that the Nigerian Air Force was established on 18th April, 1964 and has “WILLING…, ABLE,… READY…” as its motto thus, never known to condone favoritism, godfatherism or any form of corruption in its entirety since its inception.

But Dan-Barde chose to taint the image of the Nigerian Air Force and by extension the entire Nigerian Armed Forces by calling one of her sons a corrupt officer who was favored by the institution and never undergo any training.

Kumo noted that that Dan-Barde alleged that AVM Fura cannot operate a rifle if given one and also alleged that he bribed his ways through the ranks to get to the position of AVM, adding that efforts made to get Dan-Barde withdraw the sacrilegious statements have fallen on deaf ears, neither did he agree to tender an apology.

Abdullahi Kumo said that the Nigerian Air Force and Armed Forces of the country had been abused and ridiculed by Dan-Barde, saying that if the conduct of Dan-Barde is allowed to go unchallenged and unpunished, the country will come under threat in the nearest future as everyone will come out and challenge the Armed Forces. In the words of Abdullahi Kumo; “We won’t fold our arms and allow this to happen. Since Dan-Barde can’t do the needful (and he has not in anywhere or anyway denied the leaked audio), we shall continue to use the might of the pen which they say is greater than the sword until something happens.

“Further to this, we expect Dan-Barde to publicly apologize for what he did. Failure to do so, we may be left with no other option than to petition and protest his cowardly act following proper channels, procedures and authorities,” he said.

Abdullahi Kumo therefore called on the Nigerian Air Force to investigate the allegations levied against AVM Adamu Fura (retd) and also the process of recruitment, training and promotions that has been faulted by Dan-Barde in order to gain the confidence of the general public.

He also said that AVM Fura is a well-known philanthropist and business man who had impacted positively on the lives and well-being of the people of Gombe State and beyond, adding that he has always made the Nigerian Air Force proud.

Abdullahi Kumo further aid that the dastardly and uncivilized act of hooliganism displayed by Dan-Barde should not go unpunished to serve as a deterrent for future occurrence, adding that he expect the Nigerian Air Force and Nigerians to do the needful by ensuring that Dan-Barde is punished.
