BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – The Northern Governors Forum has described Saturday’s attack on Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State’s convoy by gunmen suspected to be herders as disturbing.

The Forum said that all hands must be on deck to address the lingering degeneration of security in the country as it threatened its corporate existence.

Gunmen on Saturday attacked Governor Ortom’s convoy at Tyo-Mu community near Makurdi.

Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, who is also the Governor of Plateau, Simon Lalong, said the incident must be investigated thoroughly.

Lalong assured that members of the Forum would continue to engage and support security agencies in their duty of securing the region and nation.

The Plateau Governor, in a statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Makut Macham, said the attack was another attempt by criminals to cause mayhem in Benue and in the nation as a whole.

The Forum’s chairman tasked all relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to fish out those behind the attack and their sponsors.

He commended security details attached to Governor Ortom for repelling the attack and securing him and members of his entourage.

Lalong said members of the Northern Governors’ Forum are in solidarity with Governor Ortom and the entire people of Benue State.
