Auditors General Flay Unfriendly Media Against Rivers State Govt.

The Conference of Auditors-General of Local Governments in Nigeria on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 has said that unfriendly media have projected and created an impression that is quite different from the true situation of things on ground in Rivers State under Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Chairman of the Conference, Atiku Musa, who stated this when he led a delegation of its members on a visit to the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, said it is much better to experience Rivers State in person in order to have the correct perception of its people, the comforting peaceful atmosphere and rich hospitality of the people.

Musa, who is also the Auditor General for Local Governments in Kaduna State, said they the Conference of the Auditors General were at Government House, Port Harcourt to thank Governor Fubara for accepting to host the conference.

Musa said; “Governor Fubara has done a very wonderful thing. We told him that we found Rivers State peaceful and accommodating and I appreciate their hospitality.

“You know, when you read newspapers, the news you hear is different from the real things taking place here. But when I came into Rivers State, I found out that the State is very peaceful”.

Musa said that the approval by Governor Fubara to host the conference availed them the opportunity to interact among themselves towards achieving their purpose.

According to him; “This conference was scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt two years ago, but we don’t know the problem until this administration came into being, and the Governor accepted to host the conference on behalf of the Conference of Auditors-General for Local Governments.

“And the good thing is that he is also an accountant, so we appreciate that. You know accountants are good managers.

Governor Fubara received in audience the delegation of the Conference of Auditors-General of Local Governments in Nigeria in closed door during which issues related to accountability and transparency in the effective management of financial resources in the public sector were discussed.

A statement by Nelson Chukwudi, chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Rivers State, said that the Auditors-General were at Government House as part of the activities of their 28th National Conference that is ongoing in Rivers State.

Musa later told journalists that the discussions, centred on their Annual Conference which is the 28th Conference that is being hosted by Rivers State Governor.

He said; “I really appreciate the government, people and the Governor of Rivers State for their hospitality. Since we arrived here, we have been accommodated, we have been taken care of. It’s been so wonderful”.
