As part of efforts aimed at enhancing the game of Golf in the country, the Captain of Royal Golf Course Dutse, Jigawa State, Alhaji Ibrahim Babangida Umar, was on Saturday, September 27, 2025, elected into the Board of Nigerian Golf Federation (NGF), to represent the Northwest Zone.
His emergence followed the elections of Northwest Zonal representatives into the Board of National Sports Federations which took place at the Zonal Headquarters of the National Sports Commission, Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
Umar, who is the Ma’ajin Dutse and also a former two terms Captain of the Kano Golf Club – 1908 (The Premier Golf Course in Nigeria) and member of IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, will represent the Seven Northwest States in the Board headed by Otunba Olusegun Runsewe as President.
In his post election speech, Umar, who is the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning in Jigawa State, sought the cooperation and assistance of Golfers in the zone and members of the public in his task to take the Game to the next level.

While thanking the delegates for the confidence they reposed in him, Umar emphasized his love, passion and enthusiasm to Golf and commitment to the development of the game and sports in general and pledged to take the game of Golf in the Zone to greater heights.
Earlier in his pre-election manifesto, the Ma’ajin Dutse assured that the fundamentals of his goals will include the actualisation of key objectives of Golfing by promoting physical and mental faculties of the players.
Umar also promised to strengthen the unity of the diverse peoples of the zone and explore avenues with Golf Clubs in the zone to boost the economy and develop tourism of host communities and the nation at large.
The new Board member of Nigerian Golf Federation, also plans to embark on a House to Golf Course Enlightenment Advocacy to create awareness and introduce the game to members of the public across the zone.
A statement by Mallam Abdulkadir Ahmed Ibrahim (Kwakwatawa), Media consultant, stated that Umar will also organize inter-zonal, professional and amateur Golf tournaments and competitions.
The statement further stated that the Ma’aji Dutse will also be introducing a Catch them Young Programme to identify talents through coaching clinics and mentorship.
“Babangida Umar’s agenda also include encouraging, supporting and partnering Golf Clubs in the zone to develop their infrastructures and inculcate the spirit of maintenance culture of facilities among the management and Golfers.
