Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, in the early hours of Sunday, July 19, 2026, emerged as the president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the NBA, Chief Aham Ejelam, SAN announced the victory of Badejo-Okusanya, stating that she polled a total of 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 percent, to defeat her closest challenger, Lateef Akangbe, SAN, who garnered 7,934 votes, representing 30.39 percent of the total votes cast and was closely followed by Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, who polled 5,855 votes, representing 22.43 percent, to place third in the contest.
Ejelam announced that a total of 26,106 votes were recorded for the presidential election considered highly controversial and disputed.
With the victory of Badejo-Okusanya, she has emerged as the second female and the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association since its formation in 1933.
Also elected at the election was Mr. Afam Okeke as General Secretary of the NBA having polled 8,478 votes to defeat his opponents.
The elected officers will be expected to serve a two-year tenure from 2026 to 2028.
The President-elect, Badejo-Okusanya was however, absent when the final results of the election were collated and announced at the NBA national headquarters in Abuja.
But, a member of her campaign team, Aminu Gadanya, SAN, explained that the newly elected NBA president had a flight delay, saying that she has resolved to extend a “handshake of friendship” to all aggrieved candidates.
