Bandits Shoot Pupils, Abduct Others In Kaduna Primary School
All hell broke loose on Thursday in Kuriga town of Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State as suspected bandits stormed the Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School, Kuriga (1), shooting indiscriminately and in the process abducting dozens of pupils and others.
Though the number of those ferried away by the bandits could not be ascertained as of press time, some of the residents hinted that the roll call of abductees could be over 100 persons.
According to an eyewitness account, the School’s Head Teacher and some other staff members are reportedly among the victims in the incident that occurred around 8:20 am immediately after the School’s routine assembly.
It was reliably gathered that most of the pupils took to their heels, abandoning their classes, books, and other belongings on sighting the invading bandits within the school premises.
Forefront News learnt from some of the residents, still recovering from the shock of the bandits’ invasion, that the invaders gathered and marched their victims into the forest with no help readily coming from security agencies for the period the attack lasted.
The Kaduna State Government was yet to officially react to the unfortunate incident as of the time of filling this report with the Overseeing Commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan being expected to issue an official statement on the attack.
Similarly, reporters’ efforts to reach the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, proved unsuccessful as he could not reached on the phone.
Recalled that due to security worries, the junior and secondary school relocated to the school building inside the Kuriga town a few years ago, with their former school building located outside the town left abandoned.
