BY AUSTIN AJAYI, YOLA – Bangshika Ward has won the 2nd edition of Engineer Musa Nimrod U20 football championship in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Organised by the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), the grassroots football competition was sponsored by the Federation’s National patron, Engineer Musa Nimrod.

In a chat with Journalists after the final match played at Adamawa State College of Education Staff School sports complex, YSFON Technical Director, Mr Abdulgaffar Agbola said the championship seeks to discover budding stars that will make Nigeria a force to reckon with in age grade sporting competitions

Mr Agbola said sponsorship of the Under-20 inter local government football tournament by Engineer Nimrod has seen the Federation producing and nurturing many young talents in the last couple of years.

In his message to participants, the sponsor, Engineer Musa Nimrod, who is also the President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVF), commended the boys for exhibiting great skills all through the tournament.

Represented by the Administrator Uba-Gaya Development Area, Nimrod described sports as a catalyst that can enhanced crime prevention and bring development to the society.

He said youths engagement in productive sporting activities would make them become useful to themselves and society.

Nimorod appealed to all well-meaning Nigerians to join hands with government to promote sporting activities, adding that sports is a money spinner that can change Nigeria’s fortunes for good.

The championship was won by Bangshika Ward, which defeated Shangui Ward by a lone goal while Gaya Ward won the third place match.

Trophy, boots certificates and cash prizes we’re presented to the winner and all those who excel during the championship.

The championship, which started about a week ago, had all the 12 Wards in the local government participating.
