  • Party Chieftain boasts of inflicting defeat on PDP to reclaim state

BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Still pained about losing the 2019 governorship race to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, a chieftain of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Sabo Mohammed says reclaiming the State in 2023 is a task that must be done.

In a confidence-boosting submission, Comrade Sabo said the ruling PDP and incumbent Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir are living on borrowed times and next year’s gubernatorial election will effectively confirm that position.

Addressing a selected group of Journalists in Bauchi, Comrade Sabo said; “The issue of incumbency will not play any significant role in the gubernatorial election in Bauchi state because the present administration has failed the people woefully”.

The APC Chieftain, who went down memory lane, said; “If you remember, former Governor Isa Yuguda defeated the candidate of the then outgoing Governor, Ahmed Adamu Muazu. Also, in 2015, the APC defeated the candidate of the PDP with the then Governor Isa Yuguda backing the candidate”.

“In 2019, Sen Bala Mohammed defeated the then incumbent Governor Mohammed Abdullahi. You can see that incumbency does not win elections in Bauchi state. Going by the precedence, APC will win the gubernatorial election in 2023”.

On the spate of cross carpeting after the party’s primary elections, Comrade Sabo described it as unnecessary, explaining that for someone to just join a political party and expect to win elections immediately is almost unthinkable.

“There is no way a gubernatorial aspirant will dump the APC and just expect to win elections in a different political party within a short period. It is better to be patient and wait for another time, join hands with the candidate in order to be part of the winning team.

“Don’t let us deceive ourselves, in Bauchi state, the contest is between the gubernatorial candidates of the PDP and APC. From what is on the ground, the APC will reclaim the seat easily.”

While reminding all decampees to remember that they had in the past defeated others to win elections, he urged them to exercise caution and understand that in any game there must be a winner and a loser.

He however appealed to them to reconsider their stand and return to the APC where they have contributed immensely to its formation and sustenance because according to him, “You don’t build a house and use your hand to pull it down”.
