Bauchi: 25 Die In Fatal Accident With 10 Injured – FRSC

BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI –  The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Bauchi Sector has confirmed the death of 25 people in a fatal accident that occurred on Thursday afternoon in Udubo, Gamawa Local Government Area of the State.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Yusuf Abdullahi, who confirmed the number of dead persons also said that 10 others were injured in the accident.

Abdullahi, who stated these while speaking to our Correspondent on Friday, said the accident which involved about 35 people happened at about 4.30pm on Thursday, adding that the 35 people comprised of 19 male adults, 11 female adults, two male and three female children.

He explained that the driver of the Hummer Bus lost control and ran into 11 people taking shelter under a tree close to a car wash.

Abdullahi further said; “The lone crash occurred yesterday, Thursday, 23rd March, 2023 at Udubo, along Hadeja-Potiskum route in Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, involving an Ash Commercial Toyota Hummer Bus with registration number: JMA 59XA.

“The crash was caused by overloading, speed violation which led to a tyre burst and loss of control. The driver lost control and ran into some people taking shelter under a tree. You know because the weather is hot, so they were under the tree when some of them were killed.

“Twenty-four people were inside the Hummer Bus while the remaining 11 people were taking shelter under the tree close to a car wash as stated by men of the Nigeria Police Force.

“Immediately we got the information, our men rushed to the scene for a rescue operation and evacuated the victims to the Federal Medical Center, Azare for treatment and confirmation.

“It was there at the hospital that a medical doctor confirmed 25 people including nine male adults, 11 female adults, two male children and three female children dead. Ten others sustained various degrees of bruises,” he said.

The FRSC boss said that the corpses have been released to their families for burial in Hadeja, Jigawa state while the injured are receiving treatment.
