BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – A violent clash between farmers and Fulani herders in Lanzai community of Darazo Local Government Area in Bauchi State has claimed seven lives with six others sustaining various degrees of injuries, just as houses were razed down.
The incident was confirmed in a statement by the Police Command in Bauchi State on Thursday evening, stating that on 4th June 2026, at about 0920 hours, it received a distress report that suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked farmers who were applying local fertilizer on their farm at the outskirts of Lanzai, Lanzai Community in Darazo Local Government Area.
The statement which was signed by SP Nafiu Habib, Police Public Relations Officer for Bauchi State Command, said the violent clash resulted in the loss of life and destruction of property.
The police, however said that normalcy has been restored in the affected villages of Lanzai and Dosho communities
According to Habib; “In a reprisal attack, youths from Lanzai community mobilized and proceeded to Dosho village, a Fulani settlement, where they set fire to the entire area.
“In the process, not fewer than 50 huts were razed and several household goods were destroyed.
“The incident led to the death of Seven persons, while Six people sustained various degree of injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at undisclosed health facilities.
“Extensive damage was also recorded on residential structures and personal belongings,” the police stated.
The Spokesperson of the Bauchi command of the Nigeria police further said that upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police in-charge of Bauchi command, immediately deployed tactical operatives to the affected areas to restore law and order, prevent further escalation, and commence investigations.
SP Habib further said; “The Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) has been deployed as reinforcement to maintain peace, while patrols have been intensified in Lanzai, Dosho, and adjoining communities”.
Accordingly, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has also directed a thorough investigation into both the immediate and remote causes of the incident and assured that perpetrators of the initial attack and those responsible for the reprisal will be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
CP Aliyu appealed to community leaders and residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands and reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives, property and ensure justice for all parties involved.
