Bauchi: Gov. Mohammed Defeats Dogara In Bogoro, Tafawa Balewa LGAs

BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Despite leading a coalition of opposition leaders against the re-election bid of Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara lost his Bogoro Local Government Area and neighbouring Tafawa Balewa to Mohammed.

Dogara lost both the governorship and State Assembly elections to the PDP Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir and Hon Musa Wakili Nakwada in Bogoro LGA respectively.

Mohammed was declared winner of the gubernatorial election in the area after polling a total of 16589 votes to defeat the APC gubernatorial candidate, Saddique Abubakar, who polled a total of 10436 while the NNPP candidate, Haliru Dauda Jika polled 3365 votes.

For the House of Assembly election, Hon Musa Wakili Nakwada garnered 13,934 votes to defeat his closet rival, Hon Bulus Iliya of the APC, a former Legislative aide to Yakubu Dogara, who polled 12,887 votes.

The INEC Returning Officer for Bogoro LGA, declared Musa Wakili Nakwada the winner of the election having scored the highest number of votes.

Reacting to the outcome of the election, Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Bogoro LGA, Hon Markus Bitrus Lusa described the victory of the PDP candidates, Bala Mohammed and Hon Musa Wakili Nakwada as heartwarming and therefore urged Nakwada to justify the confidence reposed in him and bring more development to his people.

Speaking to his supporters at the Gobbiya Primary School, Nakwada said that he will work hard to bring more development to the people of Bogoro LGA.

In Tafawa Balewa LGA, the final results of the governorship election revealed that the APC gubernatorial candidate, Saddique Abubakar polled a total of 22,571 votes while Bala Mohammed of the PDP polled a total of 35,155 votes to emerge winner.
