Bauchi Police Arrest Constable Over Stabbing Incident
- Police Commissioner orders investigation, sanction of erring personnel
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – For stabbing to death two members of the Yelwa Security Committee, a serving Police Constable, Lukman Madaki is currently cooling his feet at the Bauchi State Police Command.
The two youths were stabbed and killed by the Police personnel, F/No. 519342 on Thursday while on patrol with other Police officers attached to the Yelwa Division.
A press release by the Command PPRO, SP Ahmed Wakili on Friday stated thus; “On 24/03/2022 at about 2230hrs, a Patrol team attached to E’ Division while on visibility patrol around a black spot at Rafin Zurfi, Yelwa, arrested PC Lukman Madaki with F/no. 519342, 29yrs of Toro Division attached to Sports Office, Bauchi State Police Command Headquarters”.
According to the statement; “In a bid to resist arrest, PC Lukman employed the use of Jackknife, stabbed and injured the following members of the Peace and Security committee attached to the patrol team: Abdulmalik Mohammed 22 yrs of Sabon Gida, Yelwa; Sadiq 23yrs of Sabon Gida Yelwa and Nazifi Mohammed 19yrs of Yelwan labourer.
“The victims were rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital Bauchi for treatment where Abdulmalik Mohammed and Sadiq were certified dead by a medical doctor, while Nazifi Mohammed the third victim is currently responding to treatment”.
The Command spokesman further disclosed that the suspect has since been arrested and detained while investigation has commenced in earnest.
He quoted the State Commissioner of Police, Umar Sanda as commiserating with the families of the deceased, and the people of Bauchi State over the unfortunate incident.
SP said the Police Commissioner has also ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter even as he appealed for calm and urged members of the public to resist taking laws into their hands as the outcome of the investigation will soon be made public.
The Commissioner also enjoined citizens of the state to remain law-abiding and to continue to assist the Command in fighting crime in the state by promptly reporting any untoward incident, adding; “The CP once more, assures the public of his commitment in the fight against criminality in accordance to the law in the State.”
Meanwhile, angry youths from the Yelwa community besieged the Yelwa Police Division protesting the killing and demanded that the erring Police personnel be handed over to them for instant justice.
Numbering in their hundreds, the protesting youths blocked the busy Bauchi – Dass road, burning tyres and throwing stones as well as other objects at the Police station.
The situation got to a point where the Police had to use canisters of teargas to disperse the rampaging youths.
