Bauchi Records One Confirmed Monkey Pox And Two Suspected Cases
BY KKALMANA AFSA – Bauchi State has recorded one confirmed case of monkey pox as well as two suspected cases that are currently under investigation and observation.
Executive chairman of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BASPHCDA), Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, who confirmed the development to Journalists on Friday, said that one person has been diagnosed with the disease.
Mohammed said; “Yes, there is a reported of case of monkey pox in Bauchi. One person has been diagnosed with the disease while two others are still under close observation. Therefore, they are suspects for now”.
The BASPHCDA boss said that the patient, who came from Adamawa state, is presently receiving medical attention at one of the facilities in the state.
“We will not allow him to go until we are satisfied with his condition so that he does not go and infect others,” he assured.
Mohammed also said that his Agency in collaboration with others partners in the health sector, are working round the clock to ensure that the disease does not spread beyond what it is at present, stressing that strict surveillance has been heighten to curb further spread of the disease.
He therefore appealed to the people to report to the nearest health facility any symptoms of the disease for effective medical management which the disease requires for now.
Mohammed said that the Symptoms of monkey pox include fever, headache, muscle aches, backache, swollen lymph nodes, chills and exhaustion.
Others are respiratory symptoms (e.g. sore throat, nasal congestion, or cough) with rashes that can look like pimples or blisters that appears on the face, inside the mouth, and on other parts of the body, like the hands, feet, chest, genitals, or anus.
