Bauchi State Records Third Case for COVID-19

BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – A third case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Bauchi State as a 55 year old man whose identity was not disclosed has tested positive to the infection.

The confirmation was made by the State Deputy Governor, Senator Baba Tela while addressing journalists shortly after inspecting the COVID-19 isolation center located at the Bayara General Hospital, Bauchi.

Tela, who is also the Chairman of the State Response Committee on Lassa Fever and Coronavirus, said that already the third patient was isolated immediately he was confirmed to be positive to enable him receive the required medical treatment.

He added that so far 100 samples have been taken for testing, saying that as at Tuesday, 23 new results were received by the committee out of which only one tested positive while the remaining ones were negative.

Tela said; “Out of the new 23 results, only one is positive, and the patient is already in isolation to receive treatment from our medical doctors.

“We are appealing to the federal government to assist the state with enough testing materials so as to be able to conduct the test in the state.

“We are also requesting the federal government to come to our aid in the area of testing facilities, this will enable us to operate effectively.”

While stressing the total lockdown of the state, the Deputy Governor said that the measure was due to the non-compliance with the earlier government’s directive on the closure of markets and other places as well as gathering of people numbering more than 50.

He said that under this directive, no movement of vehicles and persons within the state itself would be allowed, adding that whoever violates the directive will face the full wrath of the law.

Tela said that security agencies in the state have been directed to ensure total compliance with the lock down.

The Deputy Governor said the two earlier positive index cases including that of the State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed are responding well to treatment and will soon go for the next sample test to ascertain their status.
