Bishop Kukah’s Mother Dies @86

BY AMOS TAUNA, KADUNA – The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah, has lost his mother, Mrs Janet Abashen Hauwa Kukah, in the early hours of today Friday in Kaduna.
Mama Fada, as she was popularly called, died in her Kaduna home, surrounded by her immediate family members.
Speaking to our reporter, one of the younger brothers to the Bishop, Mr. Samuel Kukah, said Mama lived a blessed life and was extremely dedicated to a peaceful living.
“Mama was a very loving mother who treated us with love and empathy. She was a lover of peace and live peacefully with all and sundry, irrespective of religion and ethnicity.
“Her death has definitely created a vacuum that will be too difficult to be filled. We thank God for her life and we are grateful to God for the life she lived,” said Mr. Kukah.
The family is yet to issue any statement on the funeral programme for Mama Kukah.
Before her death, Mama Kukah was a dedicated member of the Zumunta Mata Catholic Church. She was born in June 1934 at Katul village in the present Ikulu Chiefdom of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State. She undertook the Christian pilgrimage to Jerusalem, Israel in August 2000.
Meanwhile, sympathisers and other Nigerians from various walks of life have continued to throng the Kaduna home of the Kukahs to commiserate with the family over the loss.
