Bizarre As ‘Juju’ Exposes APC Chieftain’s Killer In Enugu
BY OUR CORRESPONDENT – The decision by some elders in Obeke-Akpa Edem, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State to go traditional has exposed a village hunter as the killer of former Ward Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the area, Chibueze Omeje.
Omeje was allegedly shot dead by the said hunter while working on his farm in Edem on Saturday, March 12, 2022.
Reports indicated that after gunning down the APC chieftain, the local hunter, identified as Monday Oriewu, abandoned his corpse on the farm and ran away from the crime scene.
According to some community members, who did not want their names in print, the villagers were already blaming suspected herdsmen for the heinous crime when some elders decided to go traditional and in the process discovered that Oriewu-the-hunter was responsible for the murder.
This surprising discovery saw the elders mobilizing some community members who ransacked the hunter’s home where the weapon used in committing the crime was found.
Community sources confirmed that the suspect confessed to the crime, but claimed that he mistook the deceased for an animal.
Also confirming the incident, the Spokesperson of Enugu State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, said it was a case of murder that is already under investigation by the Police.
However, a statement issued by the Police Command indicated that the suspect voluntarily surrendered himself to the Police after the incident.
“It is a case of murder. The suspect, Monday Oriewu (m) of Obeke-Akpa Edem in Nsukka LGA, an alleged hunter, on 12/03/2022 at about 0700hrs, reported himself to the Police and was arrested after he claimed to have shot and killed one Omeje Chibueze of Owa-Akpa Edem of the same LGA, whom he mistook for an animal when he went hunting in the early morning hours of the same date.
“Meanwhile, a conclusive investigation has been launched into the case at the State CID Enugu”, the Police statement said.
