Breaking: APC, PDP Supporters In Gunshots War In Nasarawa
BY BABA AHMED, LAFIA – There was near total breakdown of law and order in Aqwataahi town in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa state, following a clash between die heart supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The tension soaked town witnessed exchange of gunshots and stones thrown at different directions in the town
The crises started when supporters of both party trooped out to receive their candidate who were been expected in the town same time for campaigns rally.
While the PDP supporters were expecting Emmanuel Ombugadu, who is the party’s gubernatorial candidate, the APC supporters were waiting for the arrival of their governorship flag bearer, Engr AA Sule.
It was gathered that the PDP youths barricaded the road leading to Lafia thereby preventing the APC campaign train that was departing Adudu town, a suburb of Obi to flag their campaign in Aqwatashi
It took the timely intervention of a combined team of the Army and Police to prevent casualty.
An eye witness account said that both camps where jubilating while waiting for their candidates when fight broke out leading to gunshots and the barricade.
Aqwatashi is the home town of Senator Suleiman Adokwe of PDP, who was defeated by Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura in the February 23 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
As of the time of filling this report the PDP youth are still on the road while the APC campaign train has proceeded into Aqwatashi town to continue with their campaign.
