Breaking: Atiku, Wike, Fayose, Others Meet In Abuja
BY VICTOR BUORO – Moving with speed and measured steps to unify and recalibrate the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the task of snatching the presidency from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) come 2023 general elections, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, on Monday convened a meeting with key stakeholders of the country’s main opposition party in Abuja.
Attendance at the meeting with Atiku, who on Saturday, May 29, 2022, emerged as PDP presidential candidate, were Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Peter Fayose, and other stakeholders of the party in Abuja.
Though reasons for the impromptu meeting have not been made public, insiders hinted that it is part of the Wazirin Adamawa’s moves to assuage frayed arising from the just concluded PDP Special Convention and Presidential primary elections that gave him the party’s ticket.
Prompted further, the insider said, aside from the need to reconcile all tendencies at play during the primaries towards building a robust PDP against the ruling APC in 2023, knowing Alhaji Atiku too well, the consultation is clearly signaling the beginning of PDP’s search for a Vice Presidential candidate preparatory to next year’s elections.
At the party’s presidential primary where he polled 371 votes, the Wazirin Adamawa defeated Governor Wike; former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator Ayim Pius Ayim; and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, among others.
The Rivers State Governor, Wike, who came second as his closest rival, amassed 237 votes at the event which was held inside the MKO Abiola National Stadium’s velodrome in Abuja.
