BY BABA AHMED, LAFIA – Senator Suleiman Adokwe, representing Nasarawa South Senatorial district in the National Assembly on Sunday escaped death by the whiskers as allegedly sponsored thugs armed with knives and daggers attacked his convoy in Lafia.
Senator Adokwe, who is the Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Saturday’s election, expressed surprise at what he described as an “unwarranted” attack particularly in the visible presence of security agencies, who he said looked the other way.
He said he was on his way out of St. Williams Primary, being one of the venues of the 2019 Election Collation Centres for Lafia Local Government Area when suddenly his black jeep surrounded and smashed without any provocation. Adokwe, who was in company of the PDP House of Representatives’ candidate for Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency, Dr. Haruna Kigbu, said they were however lucky as God granted his driver wisdom to quickly beat an escape from the attack through Shendam Road, Lafia and avoided what may not be pleasant in whatever way owing to the dangerous weapons the sponsored thugs were carrying.
Senator Adokwe had on Saturday raised alarm over alleged threat to manipulate results in favour of his opponent, Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura, who is the candidate of the APC for the Senatorial seat.
Speaking to newsmen, Adokwe said he just came out of the venue of the collation centre after attending to complaints by his collation agent of over some irregularities in the collation process when some political thugs suddenly barricaded the
exit and began to throw all sorts of weapons at his car.
Senator Adoke said he narrowly escaped from being lynched by the whiskers following the move his driver made to outsmart the youths by speeding off even as his car was badly damaged.
In his words; “I was surprised at the attitude of the youths who upon seeing me tried to kill me throwing all manner of weapons at my car.
“This confirms my fear yesterday that some youths have been hired by desperate politicians to disrupt the process and create confusion.
“I have reported the matter to the police authorities and also notify them of the threats especially that the attack was carried out in the presence of the security personnel at the centre who refuse to act”.
