BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – The Brotherhood of the Cross and Star (BCS) has challenged world leaders to quit seeing democracy as the only solution to existing and emerging global human challenges.

According to the religious organisation, it is important to have the leaders focusing more on the processes and issues that would ensure peace, unity and love among human race rather than trivialities thrown up by so-called democratic governance.

Briefing the media in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, Spokesperson of the body, Dr Ammah Williams said despite the excellent political and democratic ideologies propounded over the years, political tensions and democratic upheavals have continued to act as a barrier towards achieving global peace and human equality.

Dr Williams stated that except world leaders make conscious efforts toward embracing peace, love and unity, the human race would continue to live with avoidable and intractable challenges.

He explained that politicians and those who find themselves in positions of authority should know that peace emanates from tolerance, humility and forgiveness and as such efforts should be geared toward achieving economic cooperation, instead of acquiring and manufacturing weapons of destruction, all in the name of showing off superiority of leadership,.

According to the BCS Spokesperson, recent global events have exposed the limit of man’s ability and knowledge to find solutions to the challenges facing the world, which should naturally compel our leaders to focus more on peace development initiatives

The press conference is organised as part of activities marking the celebration of what the organization described as “The divine numbering of the Elects” and the attendant economic benefits.

Dr Williams said over the years, this programme has generated positive impact globally with thousands of religious tourists the world over storming the ancient city of Calabar to witness and also participate in the event.

A visit by Forefront News to most hospitality locations in Calabar revealed that most of the hotels and guest houses are facing enormous pressure on accommodation.

Similarly, Food vendors and road side hawkers are overwhelmed with high tide demands for attention.
