BY EDMOND ODOK, ABUJA – President Muhammadu Buhari has approved a new Acting Alternate Chairman for the Governing Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
He is Dr Thomas John and the appointment takes effect immediately according to a statement from the country’s oil giant.
The statement signed by the Group Managing Director, Dr Maikanti Baru, was issued in Abuja, late on Tuesday.
It Mr John is expected to hold fort at the position until a new Minister of Petroleum Resources or Minister of State for Petroleum Resources is appointed by Mr President.
In line with Sections 1(3) and 2(1) of the NNPC Act, the Minister or Minister of State are entitled to assume the Chairmanship or Alternate Chairmanship position of the Board when appointed.
Until his new appointment, Mr John, a former Group Managing Director of the NNPC, served as a member of the Nigeria’s oil giant governing board.
