Buhari Gives Education Minister Two Weeks Ultimatum To Resolve ASUU Crisis


President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday directed the Minister of Education, Mr. Adamu Adamu, a two weeks ultimatum within which to resolve all contending issues with respect to the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Buhari, who gave the directive at a meeting with the Education Minister and other critical stakeholders, also said that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige should be part of the meetings to resolve the crisis.

It was gathered that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha would also be part of the team to interface with the striking unions.

In attendance at the meeting were the Ministers of Education, Malam Adamu, Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami and the Head of Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan.

Also in attendance at the meeting with the President was the Chairman of National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, Ekpo Nta and the Director-General, Budget Office, Dr. Ben Akabueze.
