Buhari’s Nomination Of Al-Makura’s Brother As RMFAC Board Member Triggers Protests Against APC
BY BABA AHMED, LAFIA – The nomination of Aliyu A. Abdulkadir, a younger brother to Governor Tanko Al-makura by President Muhammad Buhari to serve as the Nasarawa state member on the Board of the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Allocation Commission, is creating a lot of negative waves and drawing wide condemnation within and among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The nomination of Aliyu was announced on Friday in a statement by the Senior Special Assistatnt to the president on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.
However, the nomination is threatening the success of the party in the state in the February 16 presidential election as members of the APC are threatening and planning to vote for the opposition as a way teaching the party to learn how not to turn it’s victory into a family affair.
Aliyu Abdulkadir is presently the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Al-makura on Special Duties and Banking and Finance as well as handles all federal government social investment programmes in the state which includes school feeding among others.
Forefront News gathered that a cross section of the APC members in the state have conclude plans to petition President Muhammadu Buhari on why the decision might affect the ruling Party’s chances in the state in scheduled general elections.
Part of the grievances to be highlighted in the petition to President Buhari is to list the number of Governor Al-Makura’s family members, who are presently occupying different positions in government both at the federal and state level.
Sources said that the APC members are angry and seriously worried that President Buhari would take such a decision of appointing the younger brother to the governor knowing fully well what the party is facing in Imo state over the purported plan by Rochas Okorocha to make his son in-law a governor.
The APC members are of the view that the president should have taken due cognizance of the inherent danger in the appointment especially at this political period. The concerned members expressed the fear that the appointment will surely infuriate members of the party that have been working hard to change their minds and vote for another party knowing that all their efforts for the party would never be rewarded except for those that are related to either the governor or president.
Another concerned source confided on our correspondent that some of the APC members in the state are considering the option of petitioning the Senate to reject the nomination of Aliyu Abdulkadir.
This is just as it was gathered that some of the APC members in the state have already commenced the sensitization of members of their families and friends not to elect Al-makura as Senator so as not to turn the Senate particularly the state into a family affair.
