BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – The Cross River State Carnival Commission (CRSCC) is partnering the International Energy Insurance (IEI) to insure all participating bands in this year’s Africa biggest street party, the Calabar Carnival

Chairman of the Commission, Mr Gabe Onah announced the insurance policy at the final dry run leading to the December 29th 2024 Carnival showmax in the Cross River state capital.

Mr Onah explained that the insurance package would cover accidental indemnities of participants who may sustain any form of injury during the Street Party, including compensation payment to the family of participants who may unfortunately pass on during the event.

He said traversing the 12-kilometre carnival route is energy sapping and certain safety measures must be in place to encourage and assure participating bands of their safety in line with international best practices.

Onah further said this is in addition to a Group Personal Accident (GPA) policy that covers accidental injuries involving more than a single participant while the Street show is ongoing.

Similarly, the Commission Chairman also announced another partnership with Yanga Games on a lottery deal that would see the first three place winners going home with a mouth-watering cash price of N10 million.

In his remarks, the representative of International Energy Insurance, Esheru Osime, assured that adequate measures have been put in place to cater for the welfare of over 15,000 revelers who would be entertaining the world along the 12-kilometre route in Africa’s biggest street party.

Osime, who offered an insight on the safety guaranteed for all participating bands, said appropriate provisions are being made for compensation to cover all participants in case of any accident, eventualities, or even death in the course of the Carnival.

On his part, the Executive Director of Yanga Games, Clement Nyambialso, said that during the carnival, three lucky winners would go home with a whopping 10 million Naira by participating in a raffle draw.

He urged all those interested in the raffle draw to get their tickets via www.calabargames.com or at the Christmas Village in Calabar Municipality Council premises.
