C-River Govt Moves To Boost Tourism Calendar
BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – Ready to go with the current global trend, the Cross River State Government (CRSG) has set machinery in motion to unbundle its annual tourism calendar for effective service delivery.
Consequently, the government is looking at areas of priority and focus-driven decision-making that will continuously improve service quality within the State tourism industry.
With this in mind, Governor Bassey Edet Otu has approved a Review Committee headed by a former Minister of Culture and Tourism, High Chief Edem Duke to draw up modalities for establishing a Carnival Museum in the State.
The Museum will serve as a resource base for research and the preservation of cultural artifacts showcased at every episode of the annual carnival showpiece organised by the State.
According to the Governor’s Chief Press secretary, Comrade Nsa Gill, other members of the Review Committee are Dame Sen Florence Ita Giwa; Senator Gershom Bassey, Eric Anderson, and a host of the participating Carnival Band Owners
A statement signed by the Governor’s Spokesperson said the Committee members are expected to come up with a framework for the setting up of the Carnival Museum and remodeling the Carnival festivities to reflect the rich cultural heritage of the people.
Comrade Nsa further pointed out that the Committee should be prepared to explore possible areas of global promotion of the Carnival’s activities with the preservation of cultural contents as the high point.
