The Chief of Staff to Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mustapha Bala Dawaki, has defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Bala Dawaki, who resigned as Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman to contest for the Party ticket, resigned his membership of the ruling party after losing his ticket to contest the 2027 elections through the consensus arrangement of the APC.
Dawaki, who was a member of the House of Representatives during which he represented Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal constituency of Kano State, dumped the APC barely a week after failing to secure its ticket.
The defection of Dawaki was confirmed on Monday, May 25, 2026 by Saifullahi Hassan, who is one of the members of the media team in the Kwankwasiyya political movement aligned with the NDC.
Hassan who posted on his Facebook account, said the move was formalised at the Miller Rose residence of former Kano State Governor and NDC leader, Senator Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso.
According to Hassan; “Our leader, Senator Kwankwaso has today accepted the former Chief of Staff to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mustapha Bala Dawaki (Mai Gida Ruwa) to the NDC-Kwankwasiyya”.
The development comes as the NDC continues internal consultations and consensus-building processes to determine candidates for various elective positions across the Kano state.
However, it remains unclear whether Dawaki will be granted an automatic ticket to contest under NDC that he has just joined.
