CILT Pledges Economic Renaissance In C-River

BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) has inaugurated its State chapter in Calabar with a pledge to engineer economic renaissance through high level maritime activities in Cross River State.

This is the Institute also identified the Calabar Port complex as a key indicator in advancing the value chain associated with maritime activities in the State.

Led by Dr Anie Iton, as its Chairman, the Chapter said lack of enlightenment and awareness creation are huge draw backs that have unfortunately caused low level maritime activities at the Calabar Port.

Dr Iton, who is a Fellow of the Institute (FCILT) with a Masters degree from Washington State University (USA), however promised that a professional approach will be adopted to address the lapses and ensure proper synergy with key stakeholders in the industry.

She said Cross River is blessed with a vast nautical seaward boundary and deserves to reap the full benefits of such natural endowment, adding that as the association moves to check the trend, efforts would be geared toward evolving necessary framework to galvanize the required synergy to turn things around for good

Urging the people to readily embrace the vast opportunities that the inauguration of the association would bring to the State, Dr Iton said all Stakeholders must become active players in the sector, because those outside of the state may not be fully committed to the project

The CILT Chairman said as a professional body with deep sensitive interest in the promotion of the economy, the Institute would bring its wealth of experience to bear in developing the State economy.

She further acknowledged the importance of environment in maritime activities, describing it as a vital component in the development of maritime business.

According to her, this would provide the foundation for the safe movement of people, goods and services from one location to another, without which maritime activities would not thrive or survive.

Forefront News reports that the event witnessed the investiture of Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River State Council, Comrade Archibong Bassey, and the former Commissioner of Trade and Industry in the State, Pastor Barrister Rosemary Archibong, among other dignitaries as patrons of the State Chapter of CILT
