  • Gundogan brace fires Cityzens to glory, domestic double

The deafening chants of two down and one to go rent the air inside the 90,000-capacity Wembley Stadium as Manchester City won the 2023 FA Cup beating bitter rivals Manchester United 2-1 in the final match.

In the first-ever all-Manchester final, a sublime Ilkay Gundogan brace saw City win the trophy for the seventh time in our history.  The victory has now seen Pep Guardiola’s side securing a Premier League and FA Cup Double this season.

Still fresh from landing their third league title in a row two weeks ago, the Cityzens are now setting their sight on facing Inter Milan in the final of the UEFA Champions League on June 10 in Istanbul looking to complete a historic Treble.

On Saturday afternoon, it was Ilkay Gundogan’s brilliant brace of goals that secured FA Cup final derby bragging rights for City and saw them secure the domestic Double for only the second time in their history.

It was a spellbinding and action-packed first-ever all-Manchester final that saw the City skipper fire his side ahead in just 12 seconds with a stunning volley that was the fastest goal in FA Cup final history and left United keeper David De Gea

However, United drew level on 33 minutes through a Bruno Fernandes penalty awarded after a VAR check had ruled that Jack Grealish had handled in the box.

But it was Gundogan, who once again showed his knack for delivering in the biggest moments. The German midfielder’s 51st-minute volley beat De Gea’s despairing dive and secured City their seventh and arguably sweetest FA Cup final triumph of them all.

For now, City are just a step away from the brink of history
