The National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), rose from an emergency meeting on Monday and formally announced the resignation of its former National chairman and National Secretary, Senators Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore respectively.

Acting National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abubakar Kyari, confirmed the resignation of Adamu and Omisore, stressing that he had taken over the affairs of the party in acting capacity while the Deputy National Secretary, Mr Festus Fuanter, had taken over as acting National Secretary.

The NWC also announced the indefinite postponement of the National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings earlier slated for Tuesday and Wednesday, July 18 and 19, 2023.

In all, 17 members of the NWC attended the meeting with exception of the National Publicity Secretary, Mr Felix Morka and the National Women Leader, Dr Betta Edu who took permission for their absence.

Curiously, while the former chairman, Senator Adamu was not near the vicinity of the APC national secretariat, the erstwhile National Secretary, Senator Omisore, who was present was locked out of the meeting.

With the resignations of the two key principal officers of the Party, the stage is now set for the emergence of a new national chairman and national secretary in substantive capacities expected to be field at mid-term convention to be announced in due course.

The crisis within the All-Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified with the resignation of Senator Iyiola Omisore as the National Secretary of the ruling party.

The taking over the mantle of leadership of the Party by the Deputy National chairman (North), Senator Kyari is to provide interim leadership and ensure the continuation of essential party operations.

While Adamu resigned on Sunday, the former National Secretary, Omisore’s resignation coincided with the commencement of a critical meeting by the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) on Monday.

The unfolding events and leadership crises within the APC has further highlighted the underlying tensions and divisions within the party and also underscores a deep-seated dissatisfaction among party members.
