An Abuja High Court on Wednesday nullified its earlier order that committed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba to three months’ imprisonment for contempt.

Ruling on the matter, Justice Bolaji Olajuwon, noted that evidence abound before the Court that the Polic boss has considerably complied with the order of the court tto the effect that the police hierarchy should reinstate Patrick Okoli, a Chief Superintendent of police, who was serving in Bauchi State Command in 2010 but was compulsorily retired.

The failure of the Inspector General of Police to comply with the October 21, 2011 Court order directing him to reinstate Okoli, led the Court to commit IGP Baba to three months’ imprisonment on November 29, 2022.

The trial judge also upheld the pleas of the Counsel to the IPG, Mr. Simon Lough, SAN, stating that the November 29, 2022 verdict of the court sentencing him be vacated

Justice Olajuwon ruled; “In view of the substantial compliance with the order of the court and the assurance of ensuring full compliance, the order commuting the applicant, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba, is hereby set aside”.

Commenting on the judgement, the Force Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the ruling proved the innocence of IGP Baba and his respect for the rule of law.

According to Adejobi; “Today’s verdict proves the innocence of the IGP, Usman Baba, and the respect the NPF under his leadership has for the rule of law.
