Certainly there will be some controversy over Manchester United’s equaliser in the early derby as the Red Devils came from one goal down to beat rivals, Manchester City 2-1 in their Saturday’s Premiership showdown.

Indeed, what a response by Erik ten Hag’s side in this 189th derby! Right now, they seem all fired up for the title race and who else is making things happen but Marcus Rashford.

The United striker scored his 16th goal in a scintillating season and a seismic 82nd-minute derby winner that gave Erik ten Hag’s team a memorable victory.

This match winner that sent Old Trafford into wild celebration came when Alejandro Garnacho, on as a replacement, twisted and turned in City’s half before rolling the ball into Rashford who was never going to miss given his current form.

Coach Guardiola had greeted Jack Grealish’s leaping header with a cheeky grin and punch of the air to celebrate his decision to bring on the winger only three minutes before.

That strike that gave City the lead came on the hour and threw down a challenge to United. Interestingly, the answer was resounding yes as Bruno Fernades equalised for the home side after Casemiro flighted a sweet pass in behind City defence line.

And despite five extra minutes added by the referee, the Citizens failed to save the day as United brought on three late substitutes in Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez to replace goal scorer, Rashford, Carlos Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia to keep the visitors at bay and see of an important victory for Theatre of Dreams Landlords
