The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted Bello Bodejo, National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, a ₦2 billion bail in his ongoing trial for alleged money laundering with two sureties in the like sum
Ruling on Bodejo’s bail application on Monday, July 20, the presiding judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, ordered that one of the sureties must present three years of tax clearance before the court and must also reside in Abuja, the Federal Capital Teritory (FCT).
Additionally, Justice Ekwo directed that the second surety must have land worth N2 billion in Abuja while Bodejo must drop his international passport with the Court Registrar and not travel outside the country without leave of the Court.
Agreeing that the offence allegedly committed by the defendant was bailable, the judge said the Court has the discretionary power to exercise in his favour and he thereafter adjourned the matter to October 5, 6 and 7, 2026 for commencement and continuation of trial.
Available reports indicate that Justice Ekwo had, on July 9, remanded the Miyetti Allah President in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) custody, following Bodejo’s arraignment by the anti-graft agency on alleged money laundering offences.
According to the EFCC counsel, Wahab Shittu (SAN), Bodejo is the sole defendant in the charge dated June 24 and filed June 25. After the charge was read to Bodejo, he pleaded not guilty to all the counts, and Shittu then applied for a trial date, urging the court to order his remand.
However, the defendant’s counsel, Mr Ahmed Raji (SAN), while informing the court about the bail application for his client, said the application was dated and filed on June 30, 2026.
In moving the motion for bail, the lawyer submitted that the offences with which Bodejo was charged bordered on money laundering, and under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), they are bailable.
He, therefore, urged the court to admit the defendant to bail, but counsel to the anti-corruption commission, Shittu opposed the application for bail. – With NAN reports
