Covid 19: Gov Ishaku Bans Handshake In Taraba

BY AMEH IDUJAGI, JALINGO – In what many are already tauting as an official ban on public handshake, Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba has urged the people of Taraba to temporarily refrain from the age-long cultural practice and unnecessary movements as part of measures to check possible outbreak and spread of coronavirus pandemic in the State.
“I want to urge the people of the state to stop handshakes and unnecessary movement for now.
“People can chat and transact businesses online to reduce physical contacts in order to check the spread of the deadly virus,” he said.
Governor Ishaku gave the charge while speaking to newsmen in Jalingo on his return to the North East state after 87 days away from office and public glare over some undisclosed heath issues.
He explained that the Taraba government has already created and put in place isolation centres at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo and the Specialist Hospital Jalingo in preparation for any possible outbreak of the pandemic in the state.
The governor therefore speak to members of the public to embrace good hygienic practices while cooperating with relevant health authorities and the State government to keep Covid-19 out of Taraba State
On the current state of his health, Governor Ishaku explained that though not fully recovered yet, his doctors gave him the necessary clearance him to travel and return to the State.
He thanked the people of the state for their prayers and understanding while he was away on the medical treatment.
The governor also said the governance in Taraba was still smoothly running while he was away contrary to some media reports which he described as unfortunate and skewed
“While I was away, road constructions, security management and every government functions were going on smoothly”, he said
Forefront notes that Governor Ishaku travelled out of the State on December 22, 2019 without any prior official notification.
His long stay away from the Government House in Jalingo over health issues not only sparked off criticisms but also fueled speculations in some quarters that something may have gone wrong.
