COVID-19: NCDC Confirms 6 Deaths, 643 New Infections
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday confirmed six deaths and 643 new infections of COVID-19 to take the nationwide tally to 140,391 cases so far.
Also, the Centre said the record of discharges managed in line with guidelines on the day include “744 community recoveries in Lagos State, 100 in Rivers State, 78 in Plateau State, 72 in Kaduna State and two (2) in Benue State.”
Writing on its official Twitter handle, the disease outfit further disclosed that with the six new deaths, fatalities from COVID-19 have now risen to 1,673 deaths across the country.
It said; “On the 8th of February 2021, 643 new confirmed cases and 6 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
“Till date, 140,391 cases have been confirmed, 114635 cases have been discharged and1673 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”
A breakdown of the 643 new cases reported from 19 states of the federation showed thus; Oyo – (88), Lagos – (86), Rivers – (55), Edo – (54), Akwa Ibom – (53), Adamawa – (52), Plateau – (45), Kaduna – (41), and FCT – (34).
Others include: Kwara – (27), Benue – (20), Kano – (19), Delta – (18), Nasarawa – (16), Niger – (15), Bayelsa – (11), Borno – (5), Bauchi – (2) and Sokoto – (2)
On worries over the second wave of coronavirus, the NCDC cautioned that; “The #COVID19 pandemic is not yet over, and we must continue to protect ourselves and our country.
“Please continue to avoid large gatherings, wear a face mask, wash your hands regularly and always maintain physical distancing”
Also highlighting its partnership with states to fight the virus, the Centre said; “We continue to support every state, both in response to #COVID19 and to prepare for future outbreaks.”
It further stated that; “Last Friday, we joined HMSH, @DrMamora to hand over new Infectious Disease Care Centre and Molecular Lab built by NCDC, to Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, Taraba”
