COVID-19 Update: NCDC Reports 1273 Cases, 91 Fresh Ones

BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA –Nigeria’s tally of confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases have frog leaped to 1273 with 91 new cases recorded as at 11.50pm on Sunday, April 26, 2020

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced on its verified twitter handle late Sunday night that four (4) new states, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Kebbi and Taraba have reported one (1) confirmed case each in the last 24 hours.

According to the NCDC, reports of the 91 new cases came in from sixteen states with Lagos still having highest figure of forty-three (43).

Others are: Sokoto – Eight (8); Taraba – Six (6); Gombe – Five (5); Ondo, FCT, Edo, Oyo, Rivers, and Bauchi, all have three (3) each while Osun has two (2) with Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Kebbi having one (1) case each.

The Centre stated that of the 1273 confirmed cases, 239 patients have been successfully treated and discharged from different isolation centres and accredited hospitals across the country.

However, latest update also indicated that five (5) new deaths were recorded on Sunday, thereby taking the number of lives lost to forty (40) in 32 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Also, the NCDC has confirmed that one (1) case previously reported in Lagos, is now an Ondo State case, noting that “The total number of confirmed cases in Lagos is 731, and eight (8) in Ondo”
