COVID-19 Update: NCDC Reports 242 New Cases, Tally Now 4641

BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA –Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) late Monday night reported 242 new cases of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) across the country with the total of 4641 persons so far testing positive for the deadly virus.

With 902 patients officially treated and discharged from isolation centres and accredited hospitals in the country, the number of fatalities have sadly increased to 150 deaths in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to latest tweets by the NCDC, aside the 242 new cases, 10 deaths were also recorded on Monday, May 11, 2020.

The NCDC also disclosed that with no new state reporting a case in the last 24 hours, the new cases came in from 14 states nationwide as Lagos continued to lead on the list having 88 new cases; Kano – 64; and Katsina – 49.

The NCDC further revealed that Kaduna State came next with 13 followed by Ogun with Nine (9); Gombe – Six (6); Adamawa – Four (4); FCT – Three (3); while six states, Bauchi, Borno, Ondo, Oyo, Rivers and Zamfara recorded one (1) case each on the day.

On its support for states so far, NCDC said in another of its tweets, “In Taraba State, we continue to support state response to #COVID19. We‘ve supported an improved use of the Incident Management System & whole-of-society approach in the EOC

“We also supported IPC & other critical training for doctors, nurses, cleaners & other health workers.”

However, tweeting on the marginal errors in its reporting line, the NCDC said; “On the 10th of April 2020, we erroneously announced two (2) new deaths in Nasarawa

“There was one (1) death in Nasarawa reported on the 10th of April. We apologise to the State Government for this error, and remain committed to providing accurate data.”

Acknowledging the huge inputs of health personnel in containing the corona virus spread across the country, the NCDC further tweeted “There are several working behind the scenes whose roles are critical to the #COVID19Nigeria response

“Today, we thank our colleagues, cleaners, drivers, electricians, security personnel & all the people working quietly but very hard every day of the week.” #TakeResponsibility
