COVID-19 Update: NCDC Reports 313 New Cases, Total Now 7,839

BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – With over 44,458 tests samples so far conducted for the coronavirus as at May 24, 2020, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control says 7,839 cases have been confirmed throughout the country.

Releasing the latest figures of the deadly virus late on Sunday night, the NCDC said 313 new confirmed cases and 5 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours.

The Centre however, explained that with no new state reporting a case in the last 24 hours, the number of treated and discharged patients have significantly risen to about 2263 cases.

This is as the fatality numbers also increased to 226 deaths recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Of the 313 new cases reported from 17 states of the Federation, Lagos maintained its lead as the virus’ epicentre with (148), followed by FCT – (36); Rivers – (27); Edo – (19); Kano – (13); and Ogun – (12).

The list also include: Ebonyi – (11); Nasarawa – (8); Delta – (8); Oyo – (7); Plateau – (6); Kaduna – (5); Kwara – (4); Akwa Ibom – (3); Bayelsa – (3); Niger – (2); and Anambra – (1)
